Astrology Dating A popular use of astrology is to predict the compatibility of couples. Does it work though? The University of Michigan conducted a study, asking two astrologists to consult the charts of 3500 couples (3000 of which were married, 500 of which were divorced) and decide whether they were divorce or married.
They were not told until after the test which chart belonged to which couple. The predictions of the astrologists were statistically insignificant from random – there was no correlation between the astrologists predictions and the couples fate. In fact they did no better than someone tossing a coin to decide. A number of other tests have shown simliar results. Eventually as the number of tests increase you would expect there to be one test which showed an accidental correlation but we are still waiting even for this. A second test from the University of Michigan was to give astrologists three birth charts after meeting the person, then to decide which of those charts was infact theirs. The experiment was double blind (neither the astrologists nor the experimenter knew which chart was which until after the experiment was over). The result was that the astrolgists were right about 33.05% of the time – very close to the 33% that one would expect from random.

Unfortunately astrological predictions do no work as a) the premises upon which astrology is founed are false, b) its approach is no more successful than
tossing a coin and c) it does not attempt to extend and correct its predictions or base.
